This is the 2nd time a positive West Nile virus pool has been identified in South Salem, said Health Agent Larry Ramdin. Positive West Nile samples were also reported in Beverly and Middleton. A positive EEE sample was found in Topsfield.

Canal Street improvements underway

Canal Street in Salem has been a problem for years.  It floods on a regular basis and the road pitches sharply to the side making it feel like an amusement park ride for drivers.  The three phase, $16 million dollar repair project is now underway.
Phase 1: Water, sewer and drainage improvements will run from now through the end of this year.
Phase 2: Level the road, which will be done in 2014
Phase 3: Correct the flooding, which will be done in 2015
